Bill Beatty, our Editor-in-Chief, was my guiding light. I learned to think of journalism, the gambling industry, and even life, in whole new ways thanks to him, and I’ll always count on him as one of my mentors.

But I couldn’t have accomplished half of what I did without all of my colleagues, past and present. The water tower is specifically located at the business of Mount Elliott Crushing, a recycler of concrete products. While the water tower is on private land, the City of Detroit requires that permits be secured for advertisements on such structures.

A city spokesperson told the Detroit Free Press that no such permit has been granted for the Mount Elliott Crushing water tower. The city spokesperson said someone from the Buildings, Safety, Engineering, and Environmental Department would be sent to the property for an inspection and “possible correction order.”

According to its interim report for the first half of 2026, released this week, Veikkaus reported a 1% yearly increase in sales revenue of €471.3 million ($546.8 million).

Operating profit rose to €227.7 million, up from €220.6 million, while profit for the period reached €234.2 million, compared to €229.6 million a year earlier. 

The company attributed this positive financial momentum to growth within its digital channels.
